7 (seven!) hours. Sunday night. We’re still amazed.
Monday, doctor’s appointment: 11 pounds, 1 ounce; 22 inches.
And since it’s not all growth numbers and doggedly tracking the amount of sleep he gets (and we fail to get), here’s the latest IsaacFilm.

There are many solutions to the “unwilling to go to sleep” issue: heartbeat-background music, low lights, swaddling, shushing noises, etc.
We hauled the swing up to the bedroom, and pop him into it the minute he’s done eating. Worked like charm Monday night: 5.5 hours! Worked for 30 minutes on Tuesday, but apparently I have the Magic Hug, since he was out like a light within 5 minutes of removing him, shrieking, from the swing. And BAM! another 5-hour stretch.
Or, maybe, the growth spurt he may well have been in last week is over. Who knows? At least we’re getting rest again.
Other than the pre-sleep fussiness, he’s basically been a joy.

So last weekend, we got Isaac out to his first beer festival. As expected, great behavior the whole time, since he’s an angel in public. Normal single-stop shopping excursion have been event-free as well, and we’ve even managed an opening ceremony.
But on Saturday, we attempted the first multi-stop shopping excursion in search of a gas stove. This entailed four separate stops, and moving him in and out of shops, in the rain. Not. A. Peep. I was pretty impressed, as this excursion lasted almost 3.5 hours.

Now that the grandparent flood has abated, we’re left alone with a baby totally uninterested in “sleep.”
Well, not completely. But he’s likely hitting a growth spurt, as he’s agitated more often, and has a harder time falling asleep. So we’re moving into the mode of baby-in-swing, dad-on-couch until the 2AM wakeup. Hey, 3-hour stretch, then some food = more sleep, right? Er, no … I wake up again at 4:40AM to find that he had basically remained up from 2:15 or so until, well, after 5 when we convinced him to sleep more.
Ouch.
I know this will all settle out in a few weeks, but man, it’s rough. Of course, he’s The Perfect Baby when visitors are around, or he’s out in public. Fussbudget Mode only occurs at night. Ah well, it’s better than colic, that’s for sure!

Right, so, two nights in a row of 5-hour sleep blocks. Yay!
Last night: standard 2-to-3-hour blocks again. Doh!

On the plus side, he’s beginning to engage with people more now, responding to voices and stimuli. It’s really really cool to see.

9 pounds, 6 ounces (clothed).
He’s now halfway to matching the cats!

SOMEONE slept for 5 straight hours last night.
Your parents thank you more than you can imagine.
Bonus note: bottles do not seem to be an issue for this one. If anything, they work a little *too* well: an ounce of milk in just over a minute? Whoa.

Last week, he slept astonishingly well two nights in a row. Foolish us, we believed it! Since then, that kind of consistency has been nonexistent. I’ve almost reverted to “anything can happen” mode again (and we’re well-stocked for coffee, too), and just in time: the last two nights have been 3- to 4-hour sleeps, max. Urgh.
Then again, he is only 3 weeks old … and real sleep schedules take 2-3 MONTHS. Now, where’s that coffee?

Simply no contest. Pampers scores a complete and utter butt-kicking (or is that -wiping?) over Huggies. In the Newborn size, that is.
Why? Leg fit.
Why does leg fit matter?
Leakage. Huggies = leakage. Pampers Swaddlers = no leakage. Leakage = gross.
Our evidence confirmed by a mess of other new mothers yesterday morning at 4th Trimester.
