‘Arf a Year

OK, so, six months really kind of snuck up on us! I mean, how can it be that we’ve had you around for only six months? Seems longer, in a good way.

So for your birthday, you got to spend most of the day bumming around with Daddy, which was pretty cool. We both learned that you like the sound of burps as words, which will no doubt amuse both of us for years to come, much to Mommy’s chagrin. Or not! You also chose to accept a relentless father feeding you strained green beans, which was actually pretty astounding, given the poor reception the peas got. You continue to eat more and more cereal, and have expanded the babyfood repertoire to include sweet potatoes, apples, and yes, green beans.

You’ve also discovered something of a reverse rollover, that is, rolling from back to front by way of arching your back at rather extreme angles. This currently confuses you a bit, but you do seem to like it when it’s all over. You’re also sitting up more and more (unsupported), which means that by springtime, Daddy should be able to hike you all over the place in the baby backpack. New England mountains, here comes Isaac!

The best thing about the last month with you has been the almost daily increase in the interaction we have with you. From the giggly-attentive story sessions at bedtime, to the silly songs, to the playtime, you’re alert and happy a frankly astonishing amount of the time. Grandpa Dan and Grandma Millie noticed for sure when they were here last week!

Speaking of which, you got a fun weeklong visit with them, and got to spend 3 whole days at home! Mommy and Daddy actually caught up on a bit of sleep, too. You did manage to get a little sick this past few days, but you even managed to do that with a smile. OK, not quite, but you’ve taken it very well … fever, congestion, cough, and you’re still basically a happy little kid! I’m impressed. I mean, I’ve been impressed with you from the get-go, but still.

Of course, over the next six months, things are really going to get crazy: crawling, walking talking, eating real(ish) food … it’ll be intense, but wonderful.

Happy Birthday!

Love,

Dad
